Aqualon Oil Field Chemicals are used in a wide variety of applications and provide the following benefits:
  • Control fluid loss for reducing API filtration rates
  • Improve fluid rheology for cuttings suspension and hole cleaning
  • Stabilize fluid rheology in the presence of contaminants
  • Coat and encapsulate cuttings and solids to inhibit swelling and disintegration of water-sensitive solids
  • Improve the character and consistency of wallcake to reduce the potential for stuck pipe.

Many of these polymer products function across a broad range of physical and chemical conditions. In addition, many Aqualon products are efficient in fresh, salty or salt-saturated environments, and function in seawater, other mixed salt environments, and in systems having low or high pH.

Aqualon water-soluble polymers are used as additives to adjust important properties of water-based oilfield fluid systems, including drilling fluids, cement slurries, completion fluids and fracturing fluids. For most applications, viscosity, gel strength, and/or fluid loss are the properties of greatest interest.

  • AquaPAC® and AquaFLO® polyanionic cellulose polymers are used primarily to control fluid loss in water-based drilling, workover and completion fluids.
  • Natrosol® hydroxyethylcellulose polymers are used primarily to control fluid loss in cement slurries and to build viscosity in low-solids workover and completion fluids.
  • Galactasol® guar gum and guar gum derivatives are used to build cross-linked viscosity in fracturing fluids.

All Aqualon polymers are agriculturally based, being derived from cultivated cellulose- or guar-containing plants. The polymers share characteristics that are becoming increasingly important in oilfield operations:

  • Nontoxic: Aqualon polymers are nontoxic and environmentally safe.
  • Versatile: Aqualon polymers are easy to handle and disperse easily in almost all aqueous systems.
  • Efficient: Aqualon polymers are effective at relatively low concentrations.
  • Compatible: Aqualon polymers are generally compatible with all common fluid system additives.
