Hercules Support Reaches $50,000 for Katrina Relief

Chris Brown and Gary Shelley, production supervisors at our Hattiesburg plant, personally delivered a check for $10,000 from Hercules Incorporated to Babbs Faulk, director of the Pine Belt regional office of the American Red Cross.

Babbs said that Hercules was the first business to pledge directly to them. She indicated this donation would be sufficient to provide total support for about 10 families. There are 30,000 homes affected in the Pine Belt region. They are receiving volunteer help from all over the U.S., even Alaska.

Reflecting on the disaster, Gary said: “While we in the Pine Belt were dealt a serious blow, the coastal area of Mississippi is a scene of devastation. While we are dealing with financial issues, all of the Hattiesburg employees are safe and have homes, though some were damaged. We have relatives and friends on the coast, many of whom have lost nearly everything. Some people are simply salvaging what they can and moving away to start a new life. Down there it was truly a life altering event.”

More than 100 Hercules employees have contributed $19,265 to date in our Corporate Matching Program to assist the victims of the Katrina disaster and the agencies involved in the relief effort. As a result, CEO Craig Rogerson announced that Hercules would raise the corporate match for employee donations from $15,000 to $20,000 for a total corporate contribution of $30,000. This, combined with employee donations, brings the grand total to $50,000.

Thanks for your generosity.
