If you still don’t believe it’s a small world, this
story may make you a believer. Todd Sarraf, Applications Project
Manager (PPD) used his “Day Away”and a week of personal vacation working
with the Livingston Parish (New Orleans, Louisiana) Office of Homeland
Security and Emergency Preparedness in post-Katrina relief efforts.
Todd worked closely with Lawrence Callender who is a senior
technologist in Environmental Health & Safety at Dow. Dow authorized
the use of its planes and pilots who flew eight missions transporting
medical professionals, supplies and water to disaster areas after hurricanes
Katrina and Rita hit.
Todd
was working at a distribution point for relief supplies in Louisiana when a
truck arrived from East Goshen Police Department (PA), bearing a banner
signed by Bryant Davis, son of Jim Davis (Business Management, PPD, Hercules
Plaza). “Jim and his family helped pack a truck and the truck ended up with
our group for distribution,” recalls Todd. “It was amazing to see the
outpouring of support that came from all over. What a small world it is. The
folks in Louisiana truly appreciate the support.”
Following is a letter to Lyndon Lauzon, Todd’s supervisor, from the the
Director of Livingston Parish, Office of Homeland Security and Emergency
Preparedness.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for allowing Todd
Sarraf of Hercules Incorporated to aid in rescue efforts in the wake of
Hurricane Katrina. Deputy Director of Special Ops Lawrence Callender, who
has worked with Todd on past Homeland Security Projects, recommended we
contact him for additional manpower. Todd was an asset to the rescue effort
even before he came to Livingston Parish. The day after Katrina made
landfall, Todd (working from the east coast) had already secured 12
truckloads of water from outside Louisiana to be delivered to Livingston
Parish for distribution to the most needy.
Immediately upon arrival on site of the Office of Homeland Security
and Emergency Preparedness (OEP) Command Center, Todd helped manage and
prepare search and rescue efforts in the Greater New Orleans area. He worked
with the Remote Area Medical personnel to ensure they were deployed to the
locations that were most in need of medical services. Todd also worked with
the local Livingston Parish and French Settlement Parish Police Departments
to help manage the distribution of supplies and police force to the areas
most in need.
While on missions in New Orleans, Todd made vital contact with Captain
Edwin Hosli of the NOPD 2nd Precinct. He secured the necessary lines of
communications with the local New Orleans Police and the Livingston Parish
Enforcement to ensure that essential supplies were provided to support the
efforts on New Orleans to secure the city.
The New Orleans Police Department 2nd Precinct and Captain Edwin Hosli
of the 2nd Precinct in addition to the Livingston Parish and French
Settlement Police Department wish to express their sincere thanks for the
support of Todd Sarraf in this time of crisis for Southeastern Louisiana."
